Lin Zhipeng, also known as No.223 (编号223), is a contemporary Chinese photographer born in Guangdong in 1979. He has become a prominent figure in China’s counterculture art scene through his candid and provocative photography, which explores themes of youth, sexuality, and intimacy. His pseudonym “No.223” is a tribute to a character from Wong Kar-Wai’s film Chungking Express.
Lin’s photography often captures semi-nude or nude subjects in moments of emotional vulnerability, blending eroticism with melancholy to reflect the desires and rebellious spirit of a generation seeking freedom from societal norms. His work, frequently exhibited in galleries worldwide, challenges the conservative values of Chinese society, portraying the complexities of youth culture through playful yet introspective imagery. Lin‘s career began in the early 2000s when his blog gained millions of views, and he has since published several photobooks, presenting a visual diary of love, identity, and personal liberation in modern China.
