Glenda Cinquegrana Art Consulting is pleased to announce Crossbuilding, a double solo show featuring artists Silvia Idili and Francesco Irnem, accompanied alongside by texts written by Francesca Franco and Rachele Paradiso. The exhibition’s title is inspired by one of the project’s peculiarities: both artists are cooperating in order to fully creating an interaction between the container and the content, between the building and the singular works. Far from being similar, their language is producing a global environment in which artifacts are connecting closely between each other and with the gallery space.
Combining painting and sculpture, Francesco Irnem’s inquiry is focusing on the relationship between the natural and the artificial landscape. The building materials, such as plaster or wire, are seen as the ideal foundation for oil paintings of classical inspiration. The pieces of masonry, detached from their original residences, are engaging an inner relationship with the gallery space. Free from their original backgrounds, these fragments have become expanded architectural objects, conceived as natural developments of original mediums. Far from being a throwback to the past, these recalling to the antique figuration, that is usually appearing in Irnem’s work, is used for a free interpretation of the present: in Irnem’s work, this is made possible through a typical use of the language that has here acquired new meanings and futuristic possibilities.
Works by Silvia Idili are perfectly combining with pieces by Irnem. Idili features some paintings from ‘Le Visionarie’ series, including new works specifically commissioned for the show. Evoking metaphysical atmospheres, these works are of small sizes, full of intimate meanings. The main Idili’s subjects are portraits of women, or geometric figures framed by curtains or simple architecture portions, clearly detaching from the black background. These paintings when getting into a relationship with the others are expressing new and surprising meanings. Located in a fully furnished space, these little-sized works are capable to produce a deep dialogue with it: the works are emphasizing the space identity and its unique decorations. Within an experimental exhibition space, that is usually providing an intimate experience to the viewer, Crossbuilding is a step towards the full interaction between art and architecture.
